2026:

Driving ban on the entire road network for trucks/semitrailers over 7.5 t GVW as well as for trucks with trailers when the GVW of the truck or the trailer is more than 3.5 t GVW from 15:00 on Saturdays to 22:00 on Sundays and on public holidays from 00:00 to 22:00. In addition, there is a general night driving ban for trucks over 7.5 t GVW on the entire road network from 22:00 to 05:00. Exempt from the night-time driving ban are journeys with low-noise trucks (confirmation from the truck manufacturer and inspection confirmation required every two years) on which an „L-  plate“ is mounted next to the front number plate. For these vehicles, however, a speed limit of 60 km/h applies during the above-mentioned night-time hours. In some cities, such as Klagenfurt, Wiener Neustadt, Wels, Linz, Salzburg, Graz, Innsbruck and Vienna, the night driving ban also applies to low-noise trucks.

On the Inntal motorway A12 between km 6.35 (near Langkampfen) and km 90 (near Zirl), the night driving ban for trucks over 7.5 t GVW applies from May to October on weekdays from 22:00 to 05:00, and on Sundays and public holidays from 23:00 to 05:00. From November to April, the driving ban on weekdays begins as early as 20:00. The driving ban on this section also applies to low-noise trucks, with the exception of trucks of emission class Euro VI. For vehicles of emission class Euro III and lower, a permanent driving ban applies on this section.

In addition, for the above-mentioned trucks with destination Italy, a driving ban applies on the A 12 and the Brennerautobahn A 13 on 3 April  (Good Friday) from 16:00 to 22:00, on 19 April from 11:00 to 15:00, on 25 April from 11:00 to 22:00 and on 02 June from 09:00 to 22:00, as well as on all Saturdays from early July until the end of August from 07:00 to 15:00. For trucks with destination Germany, the driving ban applies on all Saturdays from early July until the end of August from 07:00 to 15:00, as well as on 18 April and on 03 October from 00:00 to 22:00.

For trucks over 7.5 t GVW, on all Saturdays from 30 June to 31 August between 08:00 and 15:00, outside built-up areas in both directions on the:

• Loferer Straße B 178 from Lofer to Wörgl

• Ennstal Straße B 320 beginning at road kilometer 4.5

• Seefelder Straße B 177 throughout the entire section

• Fernpassstraße B 179 from Nassereith to Biberwier

• Achensee Straße B 181 throughout the entire section

•  Brenner Straße B 182 Brenner Straße throughout the entire section

• Ost Autobahn A 4 before the Schwechat interchange up to the Hungarian state border

Due to the tightened Austrian Immission Control Act, trucks of Euro classes I and II may only drive in the entire Vienna city area, Lower Austria, Upper Austria, Burgenland, Styria and Tyrol with an Austrian environmental badge. The emissions sticker is likewise mandatory for trips on the motorway and expressway network towards Hungary, Slovakia and Slovenia/Croatia.

The Austrian Ministry of Economic Affairs recommends equipping all trucks used in traffic in Austria with the environmental badge, as other Austrian federal states have announced similar environmental driving bans. The badge is available, among other places, at various Austrian branches of ÖAMTC or DEKRA Austria. It can also be purchased online at “www.umwelt-pickerl.at/de/. Price: just under 40 euros.

Furthermore, in Austria there are numerous regional and route-specific driving bans, depending on the time of day as well as the size and emission class of the truck.

Public holidays on which a statutory driving ban applies: 1 and 6 January, 6 April (Easter Monday), 1 May, 14 May (Ascension Day),   25 May (Whit Monday), 4 June (Corpus Christi), 15 August (Assumption of Mary), 26 October (National Day), 1 November (All Saints’ Day), 8,  25, 26 December.

2025:

Driving ban on the entire road network for trucks/tractor-trailers over 7.5 t GVW as well as for trucks with trailers when the GVW of the truck or the trailer exceeds 3.5 t, from Saturdays 15:00 to Sundays 22:00 and on public holidays from 00:00 to 22:00. In addition, there is a general night driving ban for trucks over 7.5 t GVW on the entire road network from 22:00 to 05:00. Exempt from the night ban are journeys with low-noise trucks (confirmation from the truck manufacturer and verification confirmation every two years required) on which an "L" plate is mounted next to the front number plate. However, for these vehicles a speed limit of 60 km/h applies during the above-mentioned night hours. In some cities, such as Klagenfurt, Wiener Neustadt, Wels, Linz, Salzburg, Graz, Innsbruck and Vienna, the night driving ban also applies to low-noise trucks.

For trucks bound for Germany, the driving ban applies on all Saturdays from early July to the end of August from 07:00 to 15:00, and on 18 April and on 3 Oct. from 00:00 to 22:00.


For trucks over 7.5 t GVW, on all Saturdays from 30 June to 31 August, between 08:00 and 15:00, outside built-up areas in both directions on the:


• Loferer Straße B 178 from Lofer to Wörgl
• Ennstal Straße B 320 beginning at road kilometre 4.5
• Seefelder Straße B 177 throughout its entire length
• Fernpassstraße B 179 from Nassereith to Biberwier
• Achensee Straße B 181 throughout its entire length
•  Brenner Straße B 182 throughout its entire length
• Eastern motorway A 4 before the Schwechat junction to the Hungarian state border
