Transport Logistic 2025: G. Zwiehoff presents new emission-free dual-mode shunting vehicles
G. Zwiehoff presents two new electric vehicles for rail shunting services at Transport Logistic 2025. The family-owned company from Rosenheim, which is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, will showcase for the first time from June 2 to 5 two emission-free dual-mode vehicles specifically developed for sustainable operations on the last mile.
The company, known worldwide for its multifunctional shunting and work vehicles, continues product development in the third generation. Frank and Stephan Zwiehoff are building on the legacy of their father Gerd Zwiehoff and are increasingly relying on electric drives. The goal was to develop emission-free vehicles that meet high demands for performance, maneuverability, and reliability.
The first innovation, the Rotrac RRe, is a robust electric shunting device capable of moving loads of up to 4,000 tons. According to the manufacturer's statement, the series was developed as a sustainable alternative to diesel-powered models and impresses with high traction, compact design, and ease of maintenance. The vehicles are equipped with a high-voltage lithium-ion battery with a capacity of up to 210 kilowatt-hours, allowing for rapid recharging. Thanks to all-wheel steering, the device offers high maneuverability. The low-noise electric drive also provides more comfort for the driver.
CEO Stephan Zwiehoff explained: “We have long been convinced that the next step in the Rotrac RR series for moving heavy loads in the electric sector is to develop a powerful, flexible, and agile solution. With the Rotrac RRe, we have succeeded in developing a fully electric, emission-free, and agile bidirectional shunting device for moving heavy loads.”
The second innovation is the Rotrac E1, a compact dual-mode electric vehicle designed for towing loads of up to 110 tons. The vehicle is characterized by its low-profile design and can drive under elevated trains thanks to a foldable coupling rod. With dimensions of approximately 2.3 by 1.7 meters and a weight of around 2.7 tons, it is especially suitable for confined shunting areas. Equipped with a long-lasting lithium-ion battery, the E1 allows for intermediate charging and utilizes proven technology from the manufacturer Linde Material Handling, the company reports.
Zwiehoff emphasized: "With our latest development, the E1, we have managed to enable sensitive steering of loads up to 110 tons with 100% track stability and a small turning radius, while its low height even allows it to drive under elevated trains. We are not aware of any such product on the market so far."
G. Zwiehoff GmbH presents the 30-ton Rotrac RRe at its own stand in the outdoor area. The compact E1 can be seen as a co-exhibitor at the joint stand of Bayern Innovativ.
