Transport Logistic 2025: Verbio brings biofuel to the road
With a focus on road freight transport, Verbio presents itself in Munich at this year's Transport Logistic as a provider of solutions for the climate-friendly propulsion of heavy commercial vehicles. According to a press release, the centerpiece of the trade fair presentation is the use of biomethane – in gaseous form (BioCNG) or liquefied form (BioLNG) – as an alternative to fossil fuels. At its booth, the company provides information on the advantages of BioCNG and BioLNG in heavy-duty transport as well as its own network of filling stations.
According to Dr. Klaus Mohrenweiser, Managing Director of the Verbio Gas Station Company, freight companies can save up to 90 percent CO2 with biomethane compared to diesel. Additionally, the fuel is significantly cheaper.
"Our goal is to offer both climate-friendly and economical alternatives to fossil fuels for truck freight transport," says Mohrenweiser.
Biomethane is produced at Verbio from residual materials.
Gaseous BioCNG is suitable for short-distance transport in municipal and delivery traffic. With tank volumes allowing for a range of 500 to 750 kilometers per fill, this type of drive is particularly relevant for regional operations. For long-distance transport, Verbio especially sees advantages in the use of BioLNG. According to the company, the range of LNG series vehicles, offered by Scania, Iveco, Volvo, or Mercedes Benz among others, is up to 1,600 kilometers.
Access to BioCNG and BioLNG is provided through a continuously growing network of filling stations. Since 2021, Verbio has been building its own network in Germany. The company now operates more than 20 stations of its own. The offering is supplemented by partnerships: Verbio-BioLNG is also available at eleven stations of Baywa Power Liquids and six installations of Knauber Gas. The filling stations are open around the clock and accept common fleet cards such as DKV and UTA. Companies using the Verbio refuel card can negotiate their own conditions.
In addition to the general network, Verbio relies on individual supply solutions for companies with their own vehicle fleets. According to the company, Heidelberg Materials, Reinert Logistic, Reichhart Logistik, Transgourmet, and Reck Busreisen are already among the customers of such projects.
For calculating cost-effectiveness, Verbio provides a TCO tool (Total Cost of Ownership) on its website, which allows freight companies to determine the costs of switching to BioCNG or BioLNG.
Additionally, Verbio, in collaboration with Iveco Nord-Ost, has developed a cooperation model. Leasing customers receive CNG and LNG vehicles, including fuel procurement, at combined conditions.
In its own fleet, Verbio also relies on biomethane. Nearly all of the approximately 150 company-owned tractors run on CNG or LNG propulsion. According to the company, using its own fuel allows it to share practical experiences with interested freight companies.
