Ecocool GmbH is presenting its expanded portfolio for temperature-controlled shipping of food and pharmaceuticals at this year's Transport Logistic in Munich. According to the company’s announcement to the press, the new developments primarily focus on sustainability and digital monitoring.

In the area of packaging solutions, Ecocool relies on innovative materials and concepts that not only improve cooling performance but are also intended to reduce the carbon footprint. In addition to classic products such as thermal covers, cooling elements, or shipping boxes, the company is announcing several new developments at the trade fair, specifically designed for the food and pharmaceutical sectors.

New Insulating Materials Reduce Environmental Impact

With the Green Cell Foam transport box, Ecocool is launching an insulation packaging made from corn starch. The biodegradable material is compostable and, according to the manufacturer, CO2-neutral. The boxes are said to offer high insulation performance, which has reportedly been proven in climate chamber tests.

The second new development, Thermo Airsafe, combines a double-layered, metallized insulating film with a compact packaging device. This device inflates air into the chambers of the film, creating a stable insulation layer with minimal material usage. According to Ecocool, one roll is sufficient to insulate over 200 shipping boxes. For a standard-sized box measuring 400 x 300 x 250 millimeters, only 39 grams of insulating material is required.

Digital Monitoring Gains Importance

A central component of the trade fair presence is the topic of cargo monitoring. Managing Director Dr. Florian Siedenburg emphasizes in the press release:

“Another building block of our comprehensive solutions for the protection of temperature-sensitive goods is not just the packaging itself, but consistent cargo monitoring.”

Ecocool offers real-time devices with various sensors for this purpose. According to information provided, falling prices are making these solutions increasingly attractive for smaller shippers as well. In addition, Ecocool is showcasing its range of disposable and reusable data loggers.

Proven Solutions for Air and Sea Freight

In addition to the new products, Ecocool is presenting proven systems for international shipping. This includes, among others, the Eco-Xtreme thermal hood for air freight. Combined with so-called Waterblankets - blankets filled with water-based gel - the thermal mass of the goods is increased. According to Ecocool, this solution is designed for the temperature range between 15 and 25 degrees Celsius and is particularly suitable for transshipment processes in extreme weather conditions.

For temperature-critical transports by sea freight, Ecocool has further developed the Eco-Safe thermal hood. Again, the combination with Waterblankets is used to protect sensitive goods during longer interim storage at the quay in the range of 2 to 8 degrees Celsius. Initial reference projects confirm that the solution offers significantly improved protection compared to conventional thermal hoods.

Flexible Packaging for the Last Mile

For airport transshipment, the company is showcasing the “Eco-Breath” thermal hood. It consists of a bilaterally reflective, microporous material and is designed to efficiently protect temperature-sensitive goods against heat and humidity. Its lightweight and space-saving design make it an economical solution for air freight handling.

Easy-to-Assemble Container Insulation

For transport in sea containers, Ecocool also offers a new solution: The container insulation is foldable, space-saving, and can be easily assembled according to the provider. By fully covering the interior, temperatures in the container drop by up to ten degrees Celsius. At the same time, condensation formation is reduced – a common issue in sea transport of temperature-sensitive goods.

Sustainable Packaging for E-Commerce Shipping

In online food shipping, products from the Inno series are used. Both the Innobag shipping bag and the Innobox carton are made from cellulose material from paper recycling. With suitable cooling elements, the packaging keeps the temperature, depending on the version, between 24 and over 48 hours below eight degrees Celsius.
